TROMBONE

PARTS

ASSEMBLY

Insert the Slide into the Slide Receiver on the Bell section at right angles (90°) as shown below. Hand tighten the Slide Lock to secure it. Insert the Mouthpiece into the Mouthpiece Receiver with a light twist. Do not force it. If the Mouthpeice gets stuck take it to a professional, never use pliers to remove a stuck mouthpiece..

TUNING

The tuning of a Trombone can be altered with the Tuning Slide. Pulling the Slide in or out will change the pitch of the Trombone. Until you become familiar with tuning, get a teacher or technicion to tune it for you.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

HAND SLIDE

The Trombone Slide needs to be lubricated to keep it in good condition and functioning properly. Carefully take the Inner Slide out of the Outer Slide and lay it on a clean surface. Apply a thin, even layer of Slide Cream to the stocking (slightly thicker) part of the Inner Slide. Some creams also require a fine spray of water (read product instructions). Wipe off any old cream when re-lubricating the slide. Re-lube the Slide every week or so.

TUNING SLIDE

The Tuning Slide also needs lubricating, for this use Slide Grease not Slide Cream. Take out the Tuning Slide and apply a thin, even layer of grease to the inserted area as shown below. To keep the Tuning Slide from freezing move the joint in and out about an inch every month.

ROTARY VALVE
(if applicable)

You may wish to have this step done by a professional.

The Rotary Valve needs to be oiled before the first assembly of the trombone. Remove the hand slide section and place it on a clean surface. Hold the bell section with the bell pointed upwards, then place a few drops of Rotary Oil into the Slide Receiver. Press the Valve Lever to activate the Rotary Valve, spreading the oil evenly on the rotor and casing. Apply a few drops of Spindle Oil to the Rotor Stem, directly between the stop arm and the top of the casing. Carefully remove valve cap and apply a few drops of Spindle Oil to the bearings. Activate the rotor and replace the cap. Apply a drop of Lever Oil to each linkage of the lever assembly.

CLEANING

After each use, clean out the mouthpiece with warm water and a mouthpiece brush. Always be careful not to dent the mouthpiece, even small dents can effect the sound quality. Have the mouthpeice fixed by a professional if you notice any dents.

Also after each use, give the slide a clean out with a bendible slide cleaner and cloth. Its best to keep the instrument free of moisture.

Every few weeks give the Trombone a bath. Take the Inner Slide out of the Outer Slide and soak them in a shallow bath of warm (not hot) soapy water. Use a 'snake' trombone cleaning brush to scrub out the tubes. Then rinse with clear cool water and dry with a towel. Make sure all parts are completely dry before putting it away in its case.

Do the same with the bell section. If you have a Trombone like the one pictured above, it may be safer to have it professionally cleaned every few months as it is hard to get to all the pipes.

CARE

1. Always keep the Trombone in its case

2. Never put other objects or music books into the case. This can bend or dent delicate     parts.

3. Don't leave the Trombone in a place where it may be prone to accidental damage.

4. Don't leave the Trombone in a hot car or any place with extreme temperature or     moisture.

5. Regularly clean and maintain the Trombone, never try to repair it yourself, take it to a     professional if necessary.
